Is there any easy fix? It's a samsung 750 evo 250gb copying files to a different folder on the same drive. My second drive is a 1tb WD blue

Solution
have you installed the newest chipset drivers for the mb?? how much open space is left on the ssd?? have you let samsung software to make a ram drive when you installed the software. samsunf ssd run better when it uses some of the system ram as ram drive.

I may be wrong but i believe when copying a ton of smaller items like a couple kb files, the speed drops way down like that.
So copying folders is a bad way to determine if SSD read and write speeds are bad.

i recommend an actual SSD HDD read and write speed tester like CrystalDiskMark. I have used it before and it is a good program

This drive has a very short burst of high speed, then a much lower sustained transfer. To add to that, you're reading and writing to the same drive. I have two 850 EVOs and there is a huge difference between copying a large file from one drive to the other vs copying the file from one location to another on the same drive. Much more than a 50% performance drop.

I can't say if what you're seeing is normal, but it is well within my expectations of a low end cheap SSD.

Not really.
You're speaking of the Samsung RapidMode?

1. That can only be enabled on one drive in the system.
2. It does not affect write speed to that drive.
It merely uses some system RAM as a cache for the SSD.
I have it enabled on my boot drive (500GB 850 EVO), and it is pretty much not noticeable outside of benchmarks.
