Connection issues with monitor and graphics card

So yesterday I turned on my pc and a notice comes up on the monitor saying there is no cable connected. I checked all my cables and they seem fine. I then look inside my pc and there is a the cpu fan sat on top of the gfx card. the fan is still attached to the heatsink but one edge has fallen and is touching the open circuit board on the graphics card. The fan is plastic so couldn't have shorted anything out and only fell about 10cm or so.

I thought this could have maybe knocked the gfx card making it not connect to the motherboard correctly. But after taking it out looking it over for any damage and reconnecting it the monitor still does not connect.

Any ideas on what my issue may be? Or is my graphics card now dead?

Thanks.

OK, I see the setup now, that should not really have damaged things with the way it is. That is way under 10cm though between the fan and video card, more like 3 unless the picture angle makes it look that way.

Easiest and surest way to see if the card is good is to try it in another system.
You said the CPU fan fell off, your CPU could have fried. If you have onboard video, remove the video card and test the system with onboard video. Or try it with another video card.

How can a fan that is still attached to the heatsink reach 10 cm away from it if only one edge is off? 10 cm is a pretty decent distance, the fan or heatsink must have pretty almost fully detached.

Sorry I didn't mean to vote your answer down.

I'm on my phone atm so I can't find out what fan and heat sink it is, I will probably take a picture later and post on here. But for now I will try to explain.

Basically the heatsink sits on top of the cpu and then the fan is attached to the heatsink by rubber like feet. So the bottom set of rubber feet have let loose and the fan has fallen down while the other ones are still attached. So I doubt this would have caused the cpu to fry and it was literally turned on for a couple of minutes.
