Hi guys, i recently bought a Samsung EVO 250 GB from a licenced vendor. The box it came with was ok, everything in order, booklets and Magician Cd was included and the box said EVO 250GB, but it was made in China. When i installed Windows on it the installattion showed only 223.6 GB avaialble instead of 238GB which was peculiar. After installing Windows I ran an AS SSD benchmark and it said the drive is EVO 250 240GB. How is that possible??

Run DISKPART from a command prompt and then LIST DISK to see what it shows. My 256GB drive shows as 238GB.
Then do LIST VOLUME to see the volumes, my drive shows 3 volumes, one is 450MB, one is 99MB, and one is 237GB. If yours show anything different let us know.

There is always some discrepancy between the 'official' size and what you actually get.

A 16GB flash drive is usually actually about 15.4 GB of usable storage. A 1TB HDD is typically in the neighbourhood of 980 GB of actual storage. As long as you ran Samsung Magician and the drive is looking healthy then everything is as it should be.

A 240GB drive should show around 223GB and a 250GB drive should show around 231GB.
This is definitely odd since the EVO 250 doesn't come in 240GB.
Is the vendor a local retailer or did you get it online?
Did you get a really good deal on it?

it lists the volume of the drive as 223 GB. My concern is that other benchmarks show 850 EVO 250GB not EVO 240GB. its not the over provisioning im worried about, but the fact that even the benchmark reads it as 240GB to begin with

i think it was an average price about 75 pounds. it was an online retailer but i bought items from him before with no problems

I ran a performance test from magician but it does not state the health status

I pressed authenticate and the pc froze and had to restart.. Think i have been given a true made in china ssd?

I also tried a software for driver health suggested in another thread and this is what i got
Magician also fails to do any firmware updates

Drives are labeled according to the total capacity of the underlying chips.
Some of that capacity is reserved for control functions, and spares.
It is normal to see a useable capacity of somewhat less.
As above, Samsung magician will verify that it is legitimate or not.

Well if the drive showed anything between 232 to 240 GB of free space which i suspect is the average available space for 250GB drives i would not care. But, since it said 223, and clearly states that the drive is 240GB initial storage, then my suspicion that they sold me a non legitimate drive is overwhelming at the moment

Well at this point i no longer trust the drive. there are no problems with it but you expect it to be exactly what the price tag states. i will be returning it and getting another from a local retailer.

Just on a side note, what price are these drives where you live?
