I decided that the time to finally move on from my LGA775 based PC is nearing (after 7 years with a Q6600 and one year with a X5460). So after a lot of research I concluded that I can have either a brand new i3 6100 system with a Z170 (or a Hyper AsRock) mobo and DDR4 which I could overclock or a used i5 2500K system with a Z77 mobo and DDR3 which is still one of the most reliable overclocked combos. The used system would cost me around €100 less than the new one.
So which one should I choose? I want this mainly for home daily use, a bit video and music editing and gaming. I tend to the new i3. Thanks.

Solution
The i3 6100 is a much safer bet, its powerful enough to handle a GTX 1060/RX 480.

You should get near i5 6500 performance with this, you can get about a 20% more performance from BCLK overclocking the i3, and fast ram can really help the i3 6100 in moust cpu...

Thank you for your reply. I currently use GTX 750 2gb and don't have the budget to buy a better one just yet. I can't shop from newegg though cause I live in Greece so all that should cost me about 290 euros.
