What GPU should I upgrade too? Advice please

Hey Everybody,

So,I want to upgrade my system's GPU.

I've been playing BF1 and can only play on high with not great FPS so I'm finally due an upgrade after 5 years of putting nothing bar a new PSU into my PC.

My specs are-
GTX 670(Current card I shall be replacing)
Gigabyte z68xp-ud3p Mobo
16gb vengeance ram
coair 650w power supply!
I7 2600k

Im torn between going all out and getting the GTX 1070 or just getting something reasonable like the RX 480 as I only game in 1080p anyways.

Any help is appreciated.

Go all out so you can bask in the glory of SUPER MAX ULTRA AWESOME settings. Also it can help to reduce your minimum FPS so you never experience fps drops.

Get the GTX1070

that is an old CPU even though it is an I7. what kinf of motherbord do you have? depending on the type of PCIE slot you have may determine if it will be bottlenecked

Well, 480 is sensible choice and a good one for 1080p ultra. 1070 is more aimed at 1440p but will allow you to max anything you want on 1080p

The 2600k, assuming well overclocked, is still strong and more than capable.

I think i really will as long as the rest of my rig wont bottleneck it,if not it would be perfect.

Pcie 2 x16 = pcie 3 x8. The 1070 sill be fine as far as I know pcie x8 is not a bottleneck for those cards.

burgessanthony is right, PCI Express 2.0 doesnt bottleneck current video cards as far as I know.

Thanks for the confirmation,seems like it doesn't.

Can get the MSI GeForce GTX 1070 ARMOR for £394.98 which is €442.85 and that is not too bad.

Looking up reviews of that edition of the card.

you may have a bottelneck with that card as your mobo has PCIE 2.0 slots where that GPU supports the newer PCIE 3.0 . it will still work with it because all PCIE slots and card are backward compatible but you will not be able to squeeze out all the performance the card has

edit: other users experienced with PCIE confirmed that there would be no bottleneck before i posted this

Indeed, pcie 2 x16 is fine. It's why 1070s in sli with x8 x8 pcie 3 don't see any slow down. You'll be fine
