This morning when I woke up to get on my computer and logged in windows I noticed the artifacts right away. Basically my screen tears really bad and I can notice green artifacts around my screen. At one point my screen eventually turned black for like a minute and came back with my resolution messed up and screen flashing with artifacts literally worse than ever. It's weird because atm it's working fine, it only does it when it wants to do it. I would appreciate if someone can help me determine what part of the hardware is being affected

-MSI r9 390x
-I7 4790k
-MSI z97a 7
-Corsair Vengeance 16gb
-XFX pro 850w

Solution
It's the graphics device that renders the image. If the GPU itself is overheating or is defective or if any of the VRAM chips is defective then artifacts will appear.

Testing using the CPU's integrated GPU should allow you to determine if the remainder of the system is functioning correctly.

Idk I haven't tried, tbh I didn't even know there was a built in GPU. How can I check?

umm I have a problem which is really dumb but I forgot to remove the caps in the ports when I installed it, is there anyway I can remove the caps without removing the whole motherboard?

looks like I have to take my motherboard and to remove them.... how sure are you that it's a defective Graphics card?

You don't think it could be the PCIE? I mean I personally don't but I called MSI about it and they said it could possibly be the PCIE but iv'e played for a year and didn't have any problems.

Idk i'm gonna do as you said and take the comp apart tomorrow to remove the IO caps to test it on the integrated GPU. I'll fill you in on what happened
