motherboard: MSI P67A-G43 B3 Intel P67 LGA1155 Motherboard
power supply: corsair 750w
cpu: i7 2600k

i've had a radeon 7850 for the past couple years along and my display and/or computer kept crashing except while in safe mode, where it worked fine. i also had a 1050w power supply. i ended up replacing both components with the rx 460 4gb as well as the corsair 750w power supply.

the problem originated whenever i went to play league of legends, it would load the game but after a few seconds of the match starting my computer would freeze. it would then be able to boot fine with a normal boot until eventually normal boot stopped working. i formatted my hard drives and have a clean install of win 10 64bit home pro.

the rx 460 power up and i can see the fans spinning, however i get no display whatsoever. if i use the 7850 i can still get video in safe mode (using the new 750w power supply). i've tried updating the bios, resetting the cmos, uninstalling the display adapter in device manager (the 7850) before installing the new card, none of which had any benefit and still have the same problem.

i suppose it could be a doa card, and unfortunately i don't have another system to test it in. any other thoughts of what i can do would be very helpful, thanks :)

If it were me, I'd start at the beginning. Put your computer back the way it was, 7850 w/1050W PSU and a fresh install of Windows, just Windows. You don't need anything else to make sure your computer can function on a basic level. At this point, assuming you are having problems, pick ONE component to change(videocard or PSU). Change that component and test. If it works, now you can add the other component and test again.

If it didn't work, then change back to the original set up, and switch out the other compoent, and test. The point is to limit the amount of changes you do at one time, so as to make it easier to trouble shoot where the problem is. Leave the game out of it for now, since if you try to game before verifying the hardware works then how will you know if the problem is hardware or the game?

Thanks for your input. Not quite sure what that would accomplish though, as I have put a brand new power supply and video card in and it's problematic still.

And as far as the game is concerned, it was just the first noticeable issue. It started as I couldn't be in the game for more than 20 seconds, and over the course of a couple weeks it came to the point where I couldn't even be in windows for more than 20 seconds, even with a fresh install, before i lose the display. As it was a degradation over time, I assumed it was the power supply starting to fail. I replaced that component first, with the same symptoms persisting after I got a new one. I believe this new power supply is in no way shape or form malfunctioning

As it was a video issue my next thought was the video card. I got a new one (the rx 460) and it is giving me no display at all. No bios no nothing. So, assuming it's not DoA (which I don't have a second machine to test in to make sure), then it's a problem with it's interaction with the motherboard (windows is irrelevant as I get no bios display). Perhaps even with bios updates (which the newest one for my motherboard is from 2012) it might not be able to recognize the newer generation of video card.

My best guess is since the 7850 video card had the same symptoms with both power supplies, it wasn't the 1050w failing, so my old power supply is most likely fine.
