So I have two 4gb 1600mhz Corsair Vengeance DDR3 ram sticks installed in my ASUS z97 Mark 2 motherboard in slot 1 and 3. Both sticks seem to work because I tested each stick individually and windows booted fine with only one stick in. My problem however is that when both sticks are in, both my BIOS and Control panel in windows tell me that only 4gb are installed. I have attempted to move the sticks to slot 2 and 4 and this has not fixed the problem. I have the latest bios update installed and that does not seem to do anything. What should I do?

Solution
Try the sticks in slots 1-2 from CPU, if they work there then it's a channel problem - could well be the cooler is too tight in a corner or side of the CPU, might also have bent/broken pins in the CPU socket
Hello... MB Battery removal and CMOS clear/reset before changing Ram stick locations or population. memory communication get stored in the CMOS memory.

Take your time here and be slow and careful to your MB... look in your MB manual/Pdf for pictures and location of the Pins/SW. B )
1) un-plug PS from wall.
2) remove MB battery
3) place jumper pins OR push switch on MB to clear the capacitors... for ~2 mins
4) remove Jumper/switch connection.
5) re-install battery

Look in your manual for the correct RAM slots you want to use/test for "Dual channel" operation with this MB.

6) plug monitor into the MB or video card output. *
7) plug in PS to wall
8) Boot computer.

*You may need to change you CPU/IGT or Video card setting in your BIOS (save&exit) depending on your MB/BIOS/Video output needs.

This did not work. I am in my bios and it tells me that i have a mem capacity of 4gb and a speed of 1333mhz even though i have two 1600mhz 4gb sticks installed. I tried to manually change the dram frequency to 1600mhz but no luck there

Hello... This can happen... and is frustrating... I'm trying to find a older article for you of the same situation... LOL but finally a later reply "It's finally worked!!!"

1) Try Booting without any memory sticks next... and see if that helps get the BIO's reading them on the next BOOT attempt. B /
2) Try different MB Ram slot combinations too.

3) Do you have a Dual BIOS feature?... what does your manual/PDF suggest on a proper CMOS CLEAR/RESET B /

4) What are the Voltage ratings of your RAM sticks?
