I have the following setup

LENOV/EMC IX2 - NAS Drive.
Windows 10 Laptop - (Now broken)
Recently acquired Apple Airbook.

I had stored all my data on the NAS drive just when my laptop decided to quit on me. I wen ahead and bought a Mac. I connected to the NAS drive using my new laptop and was able to see the high level folder structure with the names of the Shared folders. however no data was visible.

Now when i tried to access my NAS drive through another windows machine, all i can see is some folders with the name 'Apple' etc. the issue is the data seems to be present on the NAS drive however i am not able to view it at all. The NAS drive stats are telling me that data is present. what should i do?

Appreciate any help that i can get.

thanks

thanks for your reply. I now connected through the CIFS protocol. had to go into finder Command K
cifs://192.168.0.13 connected using this.

THe new files that i now store on NAS drive, i can view using both my MAC and Windows PC. However my old data is still not viewable.

To your question, i went in to FOlder properties and selected the option 'Show hidden fodler and files' still cant view my old data.

i did not have to setup any specific security settings on the NAS drive. i can give it a try though to see.

Hello... More guessing here.... B / 2) Windows files are in NTFS... does your MAC OS have the ability to read a Windows formatted file?
3) The Security of the Windows Files might be locked to the Broken Windows 10 laptop/Drive? can you boot the original drive B /

2) Yes MAC OS can read NTFS files as the new files that i am currently copying from old pc to NAS drive, i am able to view.

3) The broken laptop hard drive is not connected. the issue is with the NAS drive which is indepedent.

looks like Apple created random folders on the NAS drive as well.

Did you get a prompt about formatting or changing the drive at all when you connected the NAS to the Apple computer? Sounds like you set up the drive to be used for the Apple, many times the utility that does those things first wipes the drive. Did you miss a warning maybe?

I did not get any warning or popup advising me to format the drive or anything.

FUnny thing is that the data is still present in the drive as i can see the disk free space Quota. if you scroll up, some random default folders were created by my Mac notebook.
