Hi all,

I recently built my first PC (woo!) and it was working like a dream for about two days before I got the blue screen of death, after which the PC wouldn't boot. I wasn't quick enought to get a look at the error code. After a bit of fiddling I could get it to boot to bios without the graphics card using the on-board graphics. I tried updating bios and throwing the graphics card back in but it didn't help. I also tried clearing the CMOS by removing the battery on the motherboard and leaving it out for 30min and also using the CMOS jumper. Still no success.
Not sure if this is relevent but the BOOT_DEVICE_LED on the motherboard stayed on until I updated the bios, but now it's off.

I'm not sure if my video card or possibly my motherboard died? I'm really hoping I'm missing something simpler here. I've included my build below.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

PC build:
CPU: Intel Core i5 6600k
Motherboard: ASUS Z170-ar
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 3GT OC
RAM: 2x G.skill Ripjaws 8gb DDR4 2400MHz
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X
HDD: 2tb Toshiba

Many thanks

Cheers

Ah, sorry about that. The power supply is a Great Wall GW-550SEL.

Replace that power supply, running a low quality power supply in a computer with good parts is like running a Ferrari in a race on Toyota Prius tires. Eventually you will spin out and crash a $200,000 car.

Seasonic S12II in the 5-600 watt range is about $60-70. Replace the PSU, see how the card runs after that.

Even if not fixed, you can sleep better at least knowing your computer is a lot less likely to fry.

Thanks for the info. It turned out to be a faulty graphics card so I was able to get a replacement under warranty, but I have also heeded your advice and bought myself a quality power supply.

Good move. A PSU is the heart of your PC, so you're smart to go with a dependable one..
