Hi!
I had help building my current computer from an old colleague who knew a lot about what to get (I don't know much). Now I am looking to upgrade with new RAM and a new Graphics Card (looking at gtx 1060).
Intended use of computer is gaming (overwatch, fallout, maybe battlefield 1 if possible?) and photo editing with Lightroom and Photoshop.
My current computer has:
Processor: Intel Core i5 2500K - CPU-Z says it is running: Core Speed 4323.8 MHz if that matters
Mainboard: P8Z77-V DELUXE
RAM: 2x4GB Corsair XMS3 Vengeance 8GB DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz
Graphics: ASUS GeForce GTX 580 1,5GB
PSU: Corsair PowerSupply (PSU) 650W Enthusiast Series
Questions:
#1. My main question is what type of RAM to buy? Since I have an older processor and motherboard I just want to make sure everything works while still getting an upgrade since I am swapping out my current RAM anyway. Aiming to go for 16 or 32GB total.
I just want to get as good a memory as I can.
Different options I found:
1600MHz / CL9 /1.5v - what I currently have
1866MHz / CL9-CL10 /1.5v
2133MHz / CL10-CL11 / 1.5V
2400Mhz / CL11 / 1.65V - is this just the best bet for me now?
It seems like 2400Mhz RAM is somewhat cheaper then the rest at the moment. But the price difference is not that large.
#2. Does it matter if the RAM is 1.5V or 1.65V for my setup?
This seems to limit the data rate if it does matter. I found some information indicating that I could not use higher then 1.5V and some that say I can.
I found this for infor regarding P8Z77-V Deluxe:
"..support up to 32 GB of DDR3 memory Non-ECC unbuffered memory running at speeds of 2400(O.C.) / 2200(O.C.) / 2133(O.C.) / 2000(O.C.) / 1866(O.C.) / 1800(O.C.) / 1600 / 1333 MHz."
#3. Does the "O.C." mean that I should only get a 1600Mhz rated RAM and overclock it uppwards? Or that I can get a higher rated RAM directly?
Thanks in advance!
