Overclocking without entering BIOS (H97 chipset)

Hi there!

I have been wanting to overclock my I5 4690k for a while now but I just realized that my Asrock H97m pro4 motherboard cant overclock in the BIOS. I thought I made sure I ordered a motherboard that supported it, but it turns out the feature was removed from Asrock's H97 motherboards in a BIOS update (apparently some Microsoft and Intel deal forced it). Anyways, I've looked around online to see if there is a way to Overclock a CPU without entering the bios. Possibly an application. I do have some options in the BIOS regarding voltages, which may be useful if I use an app to overclock. The board does have Heatsinks on the VRM's, so hopefully overheating won't be too much of a concern. I don't plan on doing extreme overclocks, but maybe a little increase from 3.5 GHz. So are there any applications out there that would allow me to overclock my 4690k?

You should not have bought an H97 mobo to overclock. No I am not aware of any application that would let you overclock an intel cpu on an H97 mobo. You may be able to do a base clock overclock in the BIOS but I would not recommend that you will likly only get a couple hundred mhz if your lucky and it changes the speeds of many different things and is hard to get stable

Yeah, I regret that now... Unfortunately it was advertised as "able to overclock" but after more research I found out that the feature was removed from H97 chipsets due to some deal with Microsoft and Intel forcing Z97 motherboards for overclocking. It fit well in my price range and it looked like it had proper VRM cooling and the ability to overclock. Probably should have read up more on that before purchasing, but I guess I would've assumed they'd remove the "overclocking feature" on the review websites.

Ill give that a try. If not, hopefully I'll still be able to run Battlefield 1 decently. (Still find it insane that the Minimum CPU is a I6 6500k...)

Thats very misleading, not sure why they would put the 6600k as min for intel cpus thats weird. It also says the fx 6350 as min for amd which is by far in a way slower than the i5 6600k in gaming, I ran the game fine at 60fps 1080p medium preset with a fx 6350 and a 760. A 4690k should run the game just as well as a 6600k, im sure even the 3570k and 2500k would work fine, I have even seen benchmarks showing i3's performing well in bf1

I used an FX 6300 back in the Beta and I could get a near-consistent 60 fps (with Vsync on, so probably a bit higher otherwise). Battlefield 4's min CPU is something like a Core 2 duo and an AMD Athlon x2. Both BF4 an BF1 have the same minimum GPU, a GTX 660 2gb. I'll wait until more people test it with other CPUs before I consider buying it. Hopefully the developers just overreacted with the minimum specs and will work fine.

Also, I read about a Bios update for my H97m motherboard that allowed overclocking. But Windows 10 had some issue and Intel/Microsoft forced the overclocking features to be for Z97 motherboards only. I'm debating whether I should flash back to an earlier Bios that supported it, but I'm afraid I'll end up screwing Windows 10 up in the process. I'll try the Intel application recommended earlier.
