Hi All,

Zeke here, finally ready to upgrade from my lowly but stable i7 860. I recently tried to export a 1080p movie I made for my fiancee for her birthday and I knew it was going to take awhile.....but 56 hours!! Jeeez! Still running SATA2 and USB2 as well, with internal and external HDs combined I have around 16TB of storage. I'm using 5TB of that and when I need to move large files around...well you get the picture. I have chosen some parts listed below, would love any and all feedback. Having 8-10 SATA ports as well as 2 or more USB 3.1 is important to me. I do not have any M.2 devices, but I will be getting one in the future so I definitely want 1-2 slots for that.
As for gaming, I am not an avid gamer. Still playing Diablo 2 and Yuri's Revenge so SLI for gaming is unnecessary. However, what is a big deal is GPGPU compute projects. I am a budding machine learning programmer that uses the GPU to run neural network code. That being said, in the future I may want to get a second and third graphics card. I mention this because I want to make sure there will not be any bottlenecks in the future when adding a second or third card dropping the bus speed to 8x, or when adding an M.2 drive. I have only one add in card, the very old Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality (PCI version). Maybe you will tell me to leave that card behind due to better on-board sound, fine by me either way.
I run a lot of VMs, different builds of Linux and a bunch of Windows 7/10 sandboxes.

Approximate Purchase Date: This week.

Budget Range: $1500-$1800

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Video/Audio editing, GPGPU compute projects, Virtual Machines, Transcoding/Recoding media, Folding@home, programming, media center.

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: CPU, RAM, Motherboard, Power Supply, Case, Blu-Ray, CPU Cooler, Graphics Card

Do you need to buy OS: No. Using Windows 7 still.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com

Location: San Diego, CA

Parts Preferences: Definitely want X99 build. Asus and Asrock welcome, simply because I have not had experience with MSI and a limited experience with Gigabyte, though I have built quite a few systems before. Would like to stick with EVGA for graphics, but open to change. Customer service and support are very important to me in regards to motherboard.

Overclocking: Maybe, but cooling becomes an issue.

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: Dual Monitor -- Monitor 1) 1920x1080. Monitor 2) 1680x 1050.

Additional Comments: I would love for the system to run quite, but I know that can be hard. I thought about going with one of the corsair water blocks for my processor, wouldn't mind that as my room gets exceptionally hot, especially during the summer, which in San Diego is 80% of the year.
I use the Adobe CS6 Master Collections, specifically Photoshop, Premier Pro, After Effects, and Audition. I use VMware Workstation for all VM like things. I use Nero Vision for transcoding/recoding (alternatives welcome for Nero), Android Studio, Fruity Loops Studio, Office 20xx, and SnagIT for desktop recording.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Mentioned most of why in the top portion of this post. System is just too slow for what I need to do.

Here is what I have now that will go into the new system:
Western Digital Red 2TB X 4
Samsung 850 Evo 250GB
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 ST1000DM005/HD103SJ 1TB
Western Digital RE2 WD7500AYYS 750GB X 2
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty X 2

Here are the new parts I have picked out:
CM Storm Stryker - White
EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING ACX 3.0, 08G-P4-6173-KR
CORSAIR RMx Series RM850X 850W 80 PLUS GOLD
G.SKILL TridentZ Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600)
ASRock Fatal1ty X99 Professional Gaming i7
Intel Core i7-6850K 15M Broadwell-E 6-Core
CRYORIG H5A Universal Mid Tower Cooler
Pioneer Black 16X BD-R

Thank you in advance for your help!!

I would definitely email gskill and see if that is supported memory (ustech@gskillusa.com) but i would recommend going to a kit of 4 sticks since the processor uses quad channel ram. In your case you may also want to go to slightly lower speed ram for better stability. You dont need to be rendering for 20 hrs and then crash...

Thanks for the advice Popatim! I have emailed g skill and awaiting their response. I am most torn on motherboard. I see that there are different key features for different manufactures. I have selected the Asrock fatality professional, but the Asus X99-Deluxe II looks amazing, as does both the MS I Krait edition and the Xpower Gaming Titanium. Any advice on that? I just want to make sure that I am not going to bottleneck and that I get the best throughput when I decide to upgrade to a second graphics card and an M. 2 SSD.
I see that some motherboards share bandwidth in specific ways, I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

On a separate note, I have been trying to reply to this post for a day now and each time I do it the following page says that I have been banned! I don't think I have done anything to be banned after 1 post, but I do know that VPNs cause a problem with most sites like this and I am behind a VPN. I jump gateways quite a bit so maybe that is the problem. Now at my finances house so hopefully this reply goes through.
