I was working with a 6300 and everything was working fine. plugged everything off, took the cpu out, put the 8350 on and plugged everything back in. It turns on but i get no post and the light in the MOBO "cpu led" is solid red.
Anybody any ideas please?
I have a m5a99fx pro r2.0 MOBO

have you tried clearing the BIOS, it may be trying to boot with old CPU settings?
"Installing DIMMs that are not compatible with the motherboard may cause system
boot failure, and the DRAM_LED near the MemOK! switch lights continuously. Press
and hold the MemOK! button until the DRAM_LED starts blinking to begin automatic
memory compatibility tuning for successful boot."
that is from the manual, have you tried this?

By the way, it was not the mem ok light but the cpu led. It is solid red

the CPU led is the motherboard saying that the CPU is wrong in some way.
I would clear the BIOS as a first step.
I posted the link to the manual earlier the instructions on clearing the BIOS are within.
clearing the BIOS will reset the BIOS and let it probe the new CPU settings.
You are sure the CPU 8350 works?

No. I am not sure the processor works.
That is the thing, for everything that i am doing, the stupid processor could be the one to actually not work but i don't know.
I cleared the CMOS and nothing happened. I haven't cleared the BIOS but i will tomorrow.
