Too much OC?

I recently built a new gaming rig with an i7-6700k OC to 5ghz with an H100i v2 liquid cooler. 1: I wanted to know if it's really going to make any discerning difference having it oc so high. 2: it has a load temp during overwatch (maxed everything) at about 30°-40°celsius and it just bounces inbetween. Is this too hot for an i-7 6700k? I am more concerned about the life expectancy of my chip than an extra 1ghz of OC.

Edit:I'm using the msi z170a m7 mobo if it matters. I'm at work atm so I can't give any voltage stats till I get off work at 1:30pm est.

well when you can get the voltages please do give them, but those temps are beyond fantastic for that speed, implying the voltage is not high at all. you are not reading the distance from MX temp readings are you? even then those are still good temps. Speed has no real effect on longevity of the chip, it simply is linked with higher temps and voltage which are the causes of CPU degradation over many years. So with those temps even 1.4V is fine, as the chip is more than cool enough. have you tried running something like cinebench to see what CPU temps get to? because it could be that the CPU simply is not being pushed all the way in overwatch. aida64 can be downloaded for a 30 day trial and that yeilds pretty good temp results as well.

@Robert cook I get about the same Temps in civilization V aswell, which is far more cpu intensive. I'm using whatever software came with my mobo, but I'll try out the other software you recommended when I get home, and update.

Also there is the intel burn test which works great if you can give it over 8GB of RAM to work with. if you have 16 GB give it 14 and then just sit around for 30 min or so so that it completes a few loops. you might want to let it go for an hour while monitoring temps.

well it would appear then that you are getting blessed temps. what is the ambient temp in the room with your PC?

id also like to know what voltage you set it too. or did you keep it on auto? if its on auto your probably over volting that cpu badly.
and no game will push your cpu like intel burn test or prime 95
