Can you use powerline internet adaptors on older homes without ground wires?

I have a home built in 1961. It does not have ground wiring; wall sockets were converted to 3-prong outlets under code grandfathering allowing it (I assume) prior to our purchase. My question's pretty simple -- can I use powerline network adaptors? I'd heard somewhere they use the ground wiring, and we obviously don't have dedicated ground wires. Can they work on an older live/neutral wiring system like that?

I think you can use AV500 standard adapters. The newer AV2 adapters use all three wires. Just look at the pictures of the adapter you a thinking of buying. Does it have a two prong power or three. If three, then look at a different adapter.
