Hello,

So here's my situation and I'm hoping somebody can help clarify this for me. I'm looking between two graphics cards. The gtx 1060 and the gtx 1070.

I can get the gtx 1060 for roughly $240. I can get the gtx 1070 for $390. A difference of about $150.

According to newegg, the core clocks for the 1060 and the 1070 are both 1594 MHZ.

So my question is, if they both have the same core clock, what is the extra $150 for? Is it just the extra 2 gb the 1080 offers? Do y'all think it is worth spending the extra money?

I have a 2560x1080 monitor and I prefer to use max settings if possible. I want to be able to play games such as BF1 and the new Ghost recon in the future. I know the 1060 will play them just fine, but my main concern is future proofing. I currently have a HD 7950 which I've had for about 4 years now, so I don't upgrade often.

Thanks!

I say you go with the GTX 1070 if you can afford it. The GTX 1060 even falls behind the GTX 980 [Not the Ti] and it only averages around 35-50 FPS on Max Settings GTA V. The GTX 1070, however, has more shaders [or as nVidia likes to call it "CUDA Cores"]. More shaders means more power [Technically]. This is the same reason I went with the GTX 1070 instead of GTX 1060. GTX 1070 offers more than just 2 extra GB. It has a lot of stuff and is more faster, powerful and future-proof [Although you should never buy a PC part thinking that you future-proofing. Always buy the parts you need right now]. You can go with the GTX 1060 if you can manage with 35-50 fps [MAXED OUT] in games like GTA V. But that defeats the purpose of owning a PC as for those Frame Rates, you can go buy a Console. I say buy anything you can afford. But if you can afford the GTX 1070, I highly recommend going with the GTX 1070. Also let me know what CPU are you going to pair it with.
