Hey everyone,

I currently have a Buffalo CloudStor 2‑Bay NAS Server ‑ SATA 3Gb/s ‑ 1 TB. I've had this plugged into my router which I am usually able to access on my home network from most devices. I was also using Pogoplug to access this through the app and online. Pogoplug recently closed their cloud, and when this happened, I can't seem to access my NAS from anywhere but on Pogoplug.com.

I am self employed and I work from several different laptops and desktops. My main goal is to just be able to save and access my docs (PDF, excel, word, images) at any time from any device.

Can anyone help me figure this out? Is there a way to do this without using pogoplug? Is there another way of configuring this?

Thanks!

You just need to figure out your NASs IP address (usually by logging into your routers web console). Once you know your NASs IP you can access the web interface by just typing it into a browser window. E.G. http://192.168.1.2 then logging in with the admin credentials you set up when you configured the NAS. From there you can configure and set up network shares, access files, etc.

Sounds like the OP can access the NAS from home just fine, it is remotely that he cant access it from.

@OP
If you have a desktop at home that is always on you can setup cloud software like owncloud or an FTP server like filezilla.
2 other options would be to either get an ASUS router that has their own cloud built into it, or to setup a VPN server on your current router.

If all of this sounds very overwhelming then the simplest option is to pay $10 a month for Dropbox business, and have it sync with your NAS.

I've got the IP and I'm able to pull it up in my browser. I also found the NAS via NAS Navigator, but when I click it it says "... is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact admin..."

I used to be able to just open File Explorer on any computer in the house and choose the NAS to open, save, etc.. Now I can't even access it from a local computer. It's also not listed when I select Network from File Explorer.

Any idea how I can set this back up?

So you can get to the login screen for your NAS but can not access the actual configuration page?

I was able to reset the device so that I can log in and access the configuration page. I just don't see anywhere in there map it. When I go to the drive on my PC it says it's not accessible and that I do not have permission. When I try to map it, it says I need to create a Share folder.

In the configuration page there is currently only a folder named public, which is what I've always been able to access from my network.

I've determined that the issue here has nothing to do with the cloud. The current issue is that my network can not locate my NAS via wifi. If I plug a computer directly into the router, I am then able to connect to my NAS. Is there a way to fix the settings of the NAS to allow other devices on the network to access the NAS via wifi?
