GPU not working or being detected

hi, i recently bought a radeon 7970 however it does not appear on device manager or in the bios and there is no display coming from it , ive updated the bios and AMD drivers but still nothing. Can anyone help?

What is the rest of your system specs?

You may need to go into BIOS and manually set it to use dedicated graphics first.

Did you have a different GPU in your computer before this?

no a gpu has not been used on this motherboard before, i do still have my old one which i intend to try tomorrow.
