Nvidia or AMD?

Depends on the game, in DX12 titles the 480 seems to perfom a bit better, though there are not really enough dx12 titles out yet to really say which has the edge in dx12 but the 480 has done better so far. The 1060 performs about 10-20% better in most dx11 games that I have seen tested.

The 4gb will be better, but not buy a huge amount. It's not a big factor at this time.

As for performance, the 1060 3gb and 480 4gb trade performance wins depending on the game, but average out to be equal in DX11. The 480 pulls ahead in all DX12 games and this should continue as the game industry moves forward with DX12. In my opinion the best option is the 480 4gb or for the next step up, the 1060 6gb.

Meaningless fanboy drivel. For every one of these, you can find 1 on the other side. Driver support is pretty much equal and that's the important part. There is nothing else that can't be easily replaced with better software.

In general GTX 1060 slightly outperforms RX 480 on today's games. However, RX 480 8GB outperform GTX 1060s more often on DX 12 games, so as time moves forward that will be the better card.

Also, there are some titles which are extremely VRAM intensive, for example: Skyrim. Double that if its modded Skyrim. Triple it if the mods are texture based. There are a few other titles like that. In these cases, any card with 8 GB of VRAM will outperform any card with 4 or 6 GB of VRAM. And of course any card with 12 GB of VRAM will outperform those in turn, if anyone wants to spend that sort of cash.

AMD started with bad drivers on the RX series, but the latest 2 versions are working well and they have finally caught up.
