Hey guys, so recently i ran into some issues with my computer and have done several hours of testing, including bread boarding my components. I've came to the conclusion that my motherboard is toast - It's an older motherboard from 2009 that came in the Dell Inspiron 530's.
CPU is a quad core 2.4 GHZ, and I put in a Radeon 7700 Series graphics card with 8GB of DDR2 Ram.

I'm on a very low budget but I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle of upgrading to a newer MOBO/ram/CPU or just purchasing an older motherboard that i had with the LGA775 socket.

Currently in pieces of have a
- Toast Motherboard
- 4x2GB DDR2 Ram
- Radeon HD 7700 Graphics Card
- 240GB Sandisk SSD
- 650w PSU
- Micro ATX Case /w fan controller and 5 case fans.

My question is, is it worth upgrading to some new components, or just purchasing an older MOBO and keep what i have?

Would a 2.4GHZ quad core processor be better, or worse then a 3.2GHZ Dual core.

I was thinking of purchasing these

Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

and using my old graphics card, SSD, PSU, Case etc.

Worth it? Yay or nay?

Your Socket 775 cpus are now 8+ years old.

Even a brand new pentium would be able to greatly outperform even a core2quad.

Dont drink the G3258 "Kool-aid". People tried to make it sound like that CPU was the most super awesome CPU ever. Sure some benchmarks are on par with an i7 but as soon as you try to do anything that is actually demanding then it wall fall in its face because at the end of the day it is still a dual core with no hyper-threading

Also not much of a point of buying 4th gen instead of 6th gen.

Money will be much better spent getting this:

CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($110.99 @ SuperBiiz)

$283.47 CDN, but none the less it's about a 50 dollar difference in what I had in mind. Not bad at all.

Very informative, thanks.
