Ah, I see. Any other good motherboards that are compatible since I want to keep the 4790k in my build?

swith the 4790k with a 6700k and it's good
although I'd upgrade the board to a GA Z170x-UD3

otherwise you gotta go with a Z97 board + ddr3 ram
but I don't see a benefit in keeping the 4790k

also yes, that PSU is crap. go with one of the units above. 550W is sufficient.

OK, one more change. That HDD is slow and has a bad rap for breaking, I suggest a WD Blue 4TB instead.

The Gigabyte UD3 is Superior to the Z170-A in my opinion. Bith use high quality components but the ud3 comes with better audio. You might get a few more MHz out of an over-clock on the ASUS but that's hardly worth it imo

Yeah stay away of large Seagate drives (except for the constellation drives)

I've been looking at the Gigabyte UD3 vs the Asus Z170-A for about 30 minutes today and I'm stumped. I don't know which one to buy. Thanks to you and @ryguybuddy for warning me about the Seagate drive, I'll go with a Western Digital one from now on

I think I'll go with the Z170-A since I don't really use sound that much besides for gaming, I don't really know what phases mean? Could you explain that please? Overclocking is something I'm looking to do at a later date once I learn how to do it without messing anything up. I think my choice for the Z170-A is that I like a good looking BIOS *wink wink* and the warranty makes me approach towards that decision

phases means on how many phases the power circuit runs. more phases means higher loads, cleaner and more stable power & power distribution. it tells you to a degree how much the board is able to handle.

this might well be one of the best explanations known to mankind. Simple yet accurate.

also the post by 'Tweaked' on the EVGA boards explains it without using anologies but easy to understand diagrams to really understand what's the use of phases and how they work

Thank you! I understand how phases work now, I'll have to do a bit more research on both boards before I start deciding. Now since you told me this, I'm leaning towards both evenly. The more phases on the GA-Z170-UD3 and the warranty and reputable source that I have [aka Carey Holzman xD] on the Z170-A
