Mystifying issue with ASUS Z170-E. POST, but no graphical output or boot

Hi all - I'm facing a really strange problem with my new build. It was perfectly stable up until last night (running fine for over one month), when I could not get the machine to boot. For clarity, I have included a hardware list.

CPU - Intel i7-6700k @ 4.0GHz (stock clock speed)
Motherboard: Asus Z170-E ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Video Card
PSU - 750W Thermaltake Bronze

Here's what's going on. The previous shutdown, I used the power button to shut the PC off (just pressing it once). For some reason, in the past it has not liked this, requiring a reset of the PSU to boot. When I came back this time and tried to boot, nothing happened.

When I try to boot the machine, it lights up, the fans spin, and it goes through what looks like a normal POST. The indicator lights all function normally. MemOK! does not indicate a problem with memory. The speaker I have plugged in to the motherboard cheerfully beeps once, seemingly indicating a successful POST. However, during this process, I never see any graphical output to my monitor. After the POST beep, the BOOT_DEVICE_LED comes on solid red, and the machine remains in a suspended state until I press the power button, in which case it shuts down immediately (so there is definitely no boot happening). I never see the BIOS screen flash up, and I cannot access BIOS. My keyboard backlight does not turn on, so it would also seem that the USB is not powered.

Things I have tried:
-Changing the CMOS battery
-Resetting RTC
-Double checking all power and data connections
-Booting with and without the GPU (monitor connected to motherboard with HDMI, although my i7 does not have integrated graphics to my knowledge)
-Trying different memory slots
-Trying only one RAM stick, in each slot
-Pretty much anything else that came up in the first two pages of all the google queries I could think of

Things I have not tried:
-Flashing updated motherboard firmware
-A different GPU, since I don't have one

I'm getting fairly frustrated here. I welcome any and all input on my process so far, and any suggestions for what to try next. It is very strange to me that the system was working fine 24 hours ago, as it had been for weeks since it was built, and is now a big paperweight. Some extra research makes me think it could be stuck in fast boot, which I never disabled. Maybe a full BIOS reset will help.

Solution
Motherboard is the hardest component to diagnose since everything else is add on. Since you've pretty much ruled out everything but the cpu (they are notoriously hard to kill doing nothing) I'd agree it's probably the motherboard has failed somehow.

I should mention, I did check with another power supply, and booted another computer with mine just fine. It would seem like that isn't the cause. My monitor also only has HDMI ports (it's one of those weird ultrawides, an doesn't have DVI or displayport).

Check the EPS power connection. That's the 8/4+4 at the upper left of the socket. Not only does it need to be firmly seated, but in New boards sometimes just appears to be seated, but in reality, one of the pins isn't and can create a Hotspot capable of melting the connection. So look for damage there and at the 24pin

I have struck out on this. No configuration helps. There is no damage or bad connections anywhere. This has to be a firmware problem. I'm going to RMA the board and hope the next one doesn't do the same thing.

Hey morops,

Curious on if you got your issue resolved? I have the same motherboard with the same issue, although mine was working for 7 months before it died.
