Hi all, basically, I wanted to download a large file through my uTorrent and it didn't work as it said this disk does not have enough space.

So I closed it and went to the 'This PC' directory. I got shocked as it said my C drive was now 173GB, instead of 250 as it was the last time I checked.
To add to that, my other drives had lost tens of GBs in storage (D: and E: ) and also saw that another Local Disk drive was created (called F: ). I tried a Microsoft troubleshooter, and it said that
the 'tile database has got corrupted', though I'm not sure what that means or if it has anything to do with the issue at hand.

I tried Disk Management to see if there was an issue with un-allocated space (as that usually is the most obvious thing to do firstly) but no. Nothing. I haven't partitioned any drives before

My laptop and its specs
Lenovo IdeaPad Z580
500GB HDD space (before), 239GB now
x64 based processor
Core i5 CPU at 2.5GHz
8GB RAM
Running Win 10 Pro (July 2016 a.k.a Anniversary Edition)

Please take some time to review and help as I need this laptop as Im a student into their first year into their A-levels and will need alot more storage space to save the files to be downloaded later on throughout.

Thank you.

Try running HDTune trial on the hard drive, show us its smart score

Try running the Diagnostics found on the lenova web site - will need to use 8.1 versions as there are no win 10 drivers.

tile database seems to be tied into the start menu so I don't think its related

If I were you I would be backing up my data and getting a new hdd as its not a good sign to lose space like that.

Hi there zak_2,

How is the drive recognized by BIOS? In case it is not recognized as having 500 GB, then most probably, the HDD has some physical flaw. In that case, you will need to contact a data recovery company, in case the data stored on it is really important.
I believe it would be a nice idea to attach the drive to another computer, so you can see if the issue persists.

Running some diagnostics on it, as Colif suggested may is a good idea as well.
