I have an old computer,1 giga of ram,24 giga of hard drive space. If I buy a new one will I be able to download and watch sports and movies?

My internet speed is not fast,(24 mbps),and that's all that's available in my area.

Solution
24 Mbps is not that slow.
To put things into perspecthr max speed at my mum's place is 2 Mbps

For streaming in HD you need around 8-10 Mbps
Downloads will take a while depending on the file size but it's plenty speed.

Hi,
Yes you may be able to do those things even with a recent cheapest build.
If you need help just tell and people may help you to build something cheap.
Just precise where are you from to easier part access and your budget.

There is no "older smaller version" of the twisted pair rj45 jack (8 pins)
You might have mistaken old modem port (RJ11, 6 pins) as such.

That aside, from the specs, 1GB ram, 24GB disk, it sounds like it would struggle on displaying movie content purely from processor standpoint.
your Internet speed is just a speed limitation, 24mbps should be more than enough to watch movies/sports though.
and it is more than what I have now. (or can have, no better available at the moment)

Whats the processor you have installed?

24 mbps is plenty, the prob maybe old PC. Would you care to be more specific than "old PC?"

24 gig HD? Heck, just the OS may take the entire space, so that I say, is 99% problematic. Fortunately HD is dirt cheap.
