A few months ago I switched motherboards but did not do a clean install of windows (foolishly) although it seems to work fine accept I still get this annoying game stutter, which is one of the reasons why I got a new motherboard, I've had the stutter since buying the pc and have now switched all of the components accept the HD and WiFi card to try and minimise the stutter which has worked mostly but to still there a bit.

So my question is is it worth doing a clean install of windows, (I have another key although it most likely won't be needed) could the old MB drivers be conflicting with the new ones? My old motherboard was a Asus m5a78) and the one I switched to gigabyte ud3p.

Or does anyone else have ideas about what could be causing this stutter?

It is always worth doing a proper driver clean when installing any new hardware in a system, and with a motherboard that generally means a clean install of Windows on a formatted HDD/SSD in the best way to go about it - so yeah, I would advise doing so.

As for the in-game stutter you are experiencing; there are so many different things that can cause it, but its usually down to settings (be it graphical settings, or settings on your mouse).

A couple of things to try:

1) Try using a controller - does it still stutter? If not, it could be your mouse.

2) After you clean install the OS, download the latest drivers from your GPU manufacturers website.

3) Experiment with turning on/off V-Sync and 'Triple Buffering' in your GPUs control...

4) Try setting 'maximum pre-rendered frames' to '1'

5) Run your games as admin and with 'high priority' in task manager
