I currently have a RX 480 4GB and a Phenom II X4 850 with 12GB of RAM. I'm getting really bad performace because of the CPU. I have money for a FX 6300 or FX 8350. Is it worth upgrading over my existing CPU?

Solution
Steady 60fps with a stock 6300 is a big ask mate.
45fps & upwards yes - doable & absolutely playable.

Your board is low end & supports 95w max chips.

Absolutely go for the 6300 , its the beat you'll do without spending large sums of money on a full upgrade.

I don't have money for new RAM. Also what CPU + Motherboard do you recommend. I'm really tight with money right now, but want better performance, since most of the games are unplayable with my current CPU.

I'd say upgrade to FX6300 or 8320 is worth it if the motherboard supports them. It will give much better, playable FPS, and FX processors are very cheap, compared to a cost of changing half the system. If you go for it- check how good your motherboard is- is it build for overclocking and 125W processors, or for less powerful ones. If limited by power- it might be better to get fx6300 and overclock it a bit.
Here is some benchmark of same clocked FX8320 vs X4 955- which is better than x4 850. FX processor offers playable performance in all games:

That is a little too expensive here where I live (like 280$) and I just saw a deal for a FX 6300 for 80$ and I don't need to change my Motherboard because it supports AM3+ Socket. Would it be a worthy upgrade until I get a better CPU?

That is true- but upgrade cost here is very different. $80-$120, vs $250 for i3 with DDR4 and MB. When buying new- i3 6100 is better, but for upgrade- FX makes sense.

Thank you for the answer! I will probably upgrade to FX 6300, I mainly want to play Battlefield 1 on Medium (or High) and Overwatch with steady 60 FPS.

Thanks, I'm asking because I'm getting lags with browsing with this CPU.
