Ok so i was looking at the 1080 cards, mainly the asus strix. Then i realized its 16 inches. How in the hell does that fit in any case?? I Have a Rosewill Throne and a 970 strix. At 11 inches it has maybe 2 inches between the hard drive bays. 1 inch with the 2 fans installed on that side of the bays. Is this just poor case design, would this fit in most full towers?

Solution

Yeah, I have the Define S and the drive cages are behind the mobo, etc. They are convenient for cable management.

They make it so big so they can fit a lot of stuff onto the card, for example 3 fans, bigger fans, more VRMs, etc.

and most cases above $90 or so can fit it, the 1080 is a high-end card usually put in a high-end case.

well mine would do it if i remove the drive cage lol... i like my drive cage. Why would they make a graphics card this big if theres no normal case to fit it :(
That is a cool design with the drive cages on that Fractal case

Yeah, Rosewill isn't really a good cases manufacturer, they tend to do "gamer" looks with marketing "11 drive cages" and end up with no room for the important stuff.

Welcome! Want me to find you a good case for your card?

The Define S has a great big window and lots of space for watercooling and graphics cards.

Lol, some of the higher end cards can be a little daunting in terms of size. I have the ROG Strix 1060 (same size) and it is massive but the Define S leaves like 10 inches of clearance.

nice. Its weird that some manufacturers are smaller. Evgas cards are 10.5 inches i think, with two fans. That is what I was looking at but they only have 1 Hdmi port which is why i opted out of evga. And ive kinda grown into an asus fanboy

3 fans isn't really necessary but at that point of high-end stuff you might as well. The extra fan keeps the card itself cooler and allows for a bigger heatsink.
