I'm wanting one of these graphics cards and was wondering which graphics card is better? I've tried looking for benchmarks etc but most places say that the RX 470 is better and some say the GTX 1060, so i'm really unsure?

Solution

I actually recommend the 1060 3GB over the 470: http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1060-3GB-vs-AMD-RX-470/3646vs3640

The 3GB of VRAM is enough for 1080p but really not enough for anything above it, although 1080p is where you should be playing with that budget.

Is barely better in DX12 and the only meaningful game that uses Vulkan is Doom.

Benchmarks? What about the GTX 1060? 1050 Ti?

are you asking for 960 or 1060? the hierarchy goes: gtx 960 (2/4gb) < rx 470 (4/8gb) < gtx 1060 3gb < gtx 1060 6gb
If you are interested only for 1080p @ 60fps rx will be excellent in every game..

Probably won't be getting a 1060 as i'm not willing to pay that yet so would you recommend the 470?

1060 3gb is too power full for your needs.. An rx 470 will get what you want and is cheaper

1060 3GB too powerful? No, it is a sweet-spot 1080p high settings card, definitely not "too powerful"

Yes, this is a factor, but usually the only setting that enforces this is Texture Quality as that eats up VRAM for breakfast. I can't notice the difference when I turn it down, though.
