Hi there just installed Corsair DDR3 2400MHZ into my M5A97 R2 EVO Board i have 2 x 4GB so total system memory is 8GB total is there any point in getting more ram for steam gaming and Sony Vegas video rendering sadly one of the slots is completely blocked by the hyper 212 Evo giant heatsink.
Is there any point in adding another 4GB to total my ram capacity to 12GB or is 8GB Enough?

Edit i have just configured the ram to run at its rated speed 2400MHZ in the bios :-D

Thanks

Joe

If clearance with the GPU allows, you may be able to setup the 212 so that it is perpendicular with the GPU and move the fan to the rear/left side or slide it up a bit on its clips to clear the DIMM slot.

If you add only one DIMM, the memory configuration will be asymmetrical between channels and will force the memory to run in interleaved mode. That will cost you a few percents in performance.

what is the CPU in there? something AMD? I have an older similar but higher end version of that board, and a Phenom II x4 965BE, and 24GB of RAM as I got 16GB for free and I can safely say it means absolutely nothing. is the slot blocked in such a way that you would ahem to remove the heat sink and then insert the RAM, or will the RAM flat out not fit? really you would want to populate all four slots so that you can make use of dual channel memory configuration.

if the heat sink its self is not the issue then I agree.
