Alright so my rig is pretty solid:

And now I think I am going to throw some more money into it to further my experience and to keep it on par with top rigs. Therefore since my processor is at a lower clock speed I am thinking that water cooling is a feasible option. I am not some adrenaline junkie with my pc but if I am over clocking i want to overclock it a substantial amount to see some benefits and I want it running cool, hence water cooling.

But here is my issue: I am not extremely experienced with water cooling and closed loop coolers look sketchy. Like closed loop coolers are akin to prebuilt pcs; they can be good, they can be bad, and if they break you do not know how to fix them because you didn't build them. I simply want to know how it works so I can trouble shoot effectively and fix the issue.

Now while I could simply search the vast amounts of resources on the subject, I have a veague idea about what I would need and where exactly to start. Also I have school work to do and since most of you are water cooling junkies you are probably more then enthusiastic to help a nub and preach your personal tips ....

In my case I am looking to put the radiator on the top probably (Obsidian 750D Airflow edition) so take that into account I guess. Or convince me otherwise

Water cooling noob looking to make a custom loop The no experience adds to what I say unless you just buy a AIO water cooler.
stick with the air cooler you have!!!!!!!!!
for a AIO cooler their the easiest to use when they stop your PC is 100% down till you replace it, nothing to repair.
for custom water their more maintenance than most people wish to do and when they break yes you can replace parts but your PC is 100% down till then.
for air even if the fan goes out you can replace it with a case fan and be right back up with a working PC.
Been their done that with water and I'm back to air.
Save your money you already have more PC than most people need.

water coolers are much better!, they will keep your temps way cooler then any air cooler could ever wish to hope to dream it could do, now aio coolers are great, but custom loops are even better. and thats not even getting into looks, would you rather have a giant radiator and some fans, or a nice colored and or clear water running through some pipes, or if you go with aio a nice sleek water plate, bet either are 100x better then air cooling

You make some good points. The fact that air cooler are easier to deal with, especially when they break is a great point. A point which I have already thought of since I am not near a computer store and must wait for RMA's or shipping in general.

That being said I still want to go to water cooling eventually because while my cryorig is one of the best air coolers (I got it for that reason, I looked at the benchmarks before I bought it) it would be nice to eventually start overclocking my 5820k and not worry about 75+ degrees Celsius when under full load, not that it is easy to go under full load with a 6 core chip especially with what i do but still. Its nice to know that being under full load is within safer temperatures, and outside of crash range. For the most part.

And in regard to the benchmark that was shown, my chip is substantially bigger and the overclock is also larger and I am not a genius but I am going to assume more voltage in more cores = more heat. Not saying water cooling is god but in my case it isnt exactly a bad idea with a good radiator pump and so on.

All in all though Ima hold off on the water cooling for a while, mainly because I want a laptop for school and also to fallback on if this dies unexpectedly or if I am tinkering with it. Maybe pick up one of those EK AIO's with the detachable hoses and what not since they are prebuilt but extendable. That probably will not be for a while though. For now I think I am going to invest my time in some new cables form cable mod (clean my case up a bit), a new 1 TB SSD because that is just useful for everything I do, and some non stock case fans would be nice. Also my keyboard and mouse are a $20 combo deal and considering I am a gamer and a I type quite a bit maybe a nice investment in that would be nice. In any case I have a lot of pressing things to do before water cooling.
