Hi, I've had a linksys WRT54GL router for almost a year now. Bought it off amazon and from day one it would give my family troubles on our phone. Literally we would lose connection and I got fed up a few times but still could not figure out what the problem was. I bought a repeater which did not help and literally gives the same results as connecting to the router itself. I downloaded some speed testing things on my phone and it would show that my speed would drop to 0 mbps and spike up to 20 sometimes but usually it'd be on the low end of the spectrum. I tried changing channels so there would be less congestion but that hasn't helped either. My down speed and up speed are relatively fast so I'm sure it couldn't be my internet speed. I've tried resetting the router and such but have run out of ideas. I'm actually looking to buy a new router soon to maybe fix the problem but i'd like to trouble shoot it before I deem that it truly is the routers fault. (I just don't want to spend more money than i have to. Thanks for reading, it's greatly appreciated.

For the router you can just get your own. If you don't care about the latest AC speeds (which you need new network cards for most likely anyway), the Asus 66U is a very good router. While not new, it has excellent range and reviews and you can find working used ones for...

No every phone in the house keeps disconnecting from it, it also includes laptops. Would you recommend I go to optimum and get one of theirs or just purchase one myself.

While not new, it has excellent range and reviews and you can find working used ones for about $40-50. I actually found one for $30 that I am using now.
