Hi all.

I've recently started having problems with my system not shutting down correctly; more often than not, it will sit for 8-10 minutes on the shutting down screen before blue screening and restarting (Driver Power State Failure).

I've had a look through the debug files and have found that the trusty Asmedia 104 USB3.0 driver isn't playing nice anymore. I've done a clean system rebuild, removed all non-essential USB devices and updated the Asmedia driver to V1.16.16.0 from the Asus website but still no love.

Any suggestions from the aether to tackle this one?

If you need any further details, please let me know!

Much appreciated!

Thanks Tradesman1; unfortunately it doesn't look that simple. 100% complete and no integrity violations.

A new development has seen dramatically decreased startup performance with a lot of blank screen time before I see the login screen (Win 7 x64, running SSDs). Beginning to think it has something to do with the USB3 implementation on the x79 boards...

The machine had been having problems with some of the onboard USB3 ports before (to the point I'm running a 3rd party's USB3.0 card after RMAing the board the first time after HD Audio dropped out). My restore images with the Asmedia driver installed all exhibit the same symptoms.

Fairly certain that the BSOD dumps are a result of the Asmedia 104 driver for the onboard USB - if I disable this, the problem disappears. However, it is quite useful to have USB3 ports that work - I try and use the onboard header to run my card reader for photographic work. It seems to work well but won't let the computer shutdown properly. Can work out how to attach one of the dump files if you think it will help?

Oh...and running BitDefender Internet Security 2017 after growing tired of Norton. Nothing evil found so far in terms of Malware/Viruses.

I think you might be onto something there. I disabled BD for 1 hr and attempted a few restarts - no problems. However, after restarting it appears that BD is activated again automatically on a custom level of protection with no mention of the 1hr.

Craziness. I'm about to disappear for a couple of weeks but will try a fresh install when I get back to the machine and see what happens.

Thanks for you help again Tradesman1 and let me know if you have any further advice with respect to BD.

Cheers! I'll see if their support has anything to offer but if the problems continue that looks like the way.
