I wanted to transfer some backup of an external hardrive. But it was so slow that i tried to change it to better performance. But than my pc froze when I clicked ok and i had to reset it. Now my pc can't find the hard drive.

How can I solve this? Is it any way I can get my files back?

EDIT:
I tried it on anoter pc and it works fine. I gues the problem is just in windows and not the hard drive it self? So I can then just reset windows from a system image and everything is fine?

Hi there Michie,

What do you mean by changing to a better performance?

As the drive is recognized by another computer, you need to back up your data first.

Most probably, this is a connection or a driver related issue.
You can attach the drive to another USB port. The ones on the back of the case tend to provide more power and are directly attached to the MOBO.
In case the issue persists, you can go to Disk Management and Device Manager and see how is the drive recognized over there.

It would not hurt to update your MOBO's drivers.

Cheers,

With better performance i mean in device manager, click on the hard drive, then to policies and set it to better performance instead of quick removal.
Like in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Sae9wL_008

But when i did that, my pc froze and I had to manually reset it. And then my pc won't find the hard drive, not even in Device Manager.
I did try it on another pc with windows xp that I noe longer use so it works there and I got my backup so I will reinstall windows later today and see if it works on my main computer with windows 7.
