I currently have a Gigabyte Phoenix B150N mobo with a i5 6500, but after reading up on BLCK overclocking I was thinking I should return my current case/mobo and go for a MSI Mortar Z170M so I can BLCK overclock in the future to extend the life of my system. What do you think?

Solution
Don't bother, you have a locked CPU so overclocking that is not so simple. You are better off just getting a faster CPU for your motherboard rather than spending the money on a new motherboard. The i5-6500 will be a good CPU for years.
Intel has put the squash on BCLK overclocking. Some older bios levels are around, but vendors have been told to pull them.

If you want faster, buy a i7-6700K which will run on your motherboard at 4.0 stock plus a higher turbo.

Netting the resale of a I5-6500 and avoiding the cost of a Z170 motherboard may let you come out close to even.
