I've posted about this before, I have info on my system that might be helpful, I'm running K9N4 Ultrta MB from MSI, it has a AMD Athlon Dual 5000+ CPU, 4 GB Ram, ATI Radeon Vid Card and Win XP SP3. I know it out dated some what but funds aren't easy to come by, right now at a idle its varies between 50-60 C, when I play some games it will shot up to 80 to 100c and wants to shut down, I'm running PC Alert4 to monitor my problem, any suggestions would be great. I also redid the paste, I'm using AS3.

A cooler should show 10-15c. over ambient at idle.
Older amd coolers are not very good.
Possibly, it has come loose or the paste has deteriorated.
You could try remounting it if you have new paste available(you can't reuse the old)

I suggest a $30 cryorig H7 which will be good for whatever you might want as an upgrade in the future.

Thanks to all the replys, yes I have redone the paste, but the paste it self has been laying around for a few years, I'm gonna get some new paste and start there, could a bad graphics card do this also? THANK YOU!!!!

UPDATE: Thank You all for the responses, I did redo the paste with AS5, got a used CPU, now running at 50-55 degrees, highest it's been is 63, very, very happy.....THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
