Hello experts! I need you expert advice and opinion.

I purchased a KIngston 4gb ddr3 (KVR1333D3N9/4g) as un upgrade for my G41mt-s2 rev 1.3 MOBO. After installing it alone (no other ram besides it). Monitor is just black and then restarts and then nothing. I previously purchased KVR13SS8/4g but it didn't worked so i exchanged it with the double sided one.

According to Gigabyte Website it supports KVR1333D3N9/2g so since it's only the 4g version, I assumed it will also work.

My old ram is (1 pc) Patriot 1800 ddr3 2x2gb.

unless you know what to look for and why or what is needed its just not worh the headache on that old platform save your money or just play that memory go round hoping you stumble across a kit that will work ?

Kingston has pretty much stated it does not manufacture any memory for that platform anymore , same part numbers or not gskill has a few kits that ''MAY'' work available today

best thing to do is contact there support with all your system info and let them recommend to you . then its all on them if it don't work .

your choices are very limited today and I assume once there gone its...
most of todays memory ddr3 is not compatible with them older chipsets ,

example of why

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3032790/lga-775-motherboards-memory.html#17848493

you have to look hard

These are compatible with the old G41 chipset. On ASUS boards at least

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231422

even memory with the same part numbers may not use the same IC's as old ... Kingston I think has a disclaimer stating they don't support the chipsets as well ?? in the toms link I gave

this has been discussed in several threads here as well on the IC's densities and that chipset in particular + and gigabyte seems to be the hardest to find compatible memory for as well

Thank you for your time and the enlightenment.

From this other thread:

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2042480/motherboard-suitable-ram.html

The Kingston Tech Support mentioned the model i just bought. So i wonder do I have to change some settings in BIOS?
My CPU is Core2 Quad 9400 (FSB 1333)

no you need correct memory -- that's the thing may of worked on that board but then not yours -- like isaid giga has a tough time on this and 90% of theses type threads are gigabytes ..

I'd look over the gskills we suggested in the link above from toms and read all the user reviews to see if your board is brought up as it worked or not .

you can read the reviews of that gskill from newegg a lot of g41 users found it did work well for them ????

like this one here where gskill rep say's

''. For some of the earliest systems to use DDR3, this memory may not be compatible as it uses the latest technology. Older BIOS and platforms can have a problem recognizing and allowing the necessary settings. Examples include LGA 775 such as Core 2 Duo and LGA 1156 first generation Core i3/i5/i7 CPUs, these models will need G.Skill model F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT''

so theres a solid chance they may not work at all ?

Thank you sir for the effort. I found someone who has the same MOBO and Processor like mine and has installed 8GB on his processor with Kingston (KVR1333d3n9H/49) --> his model has an "H" at the end.

if you click on 11:59, you can see he focused on the memory card brand.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjdqPRxrgpM (link to his video)

maybe ? he also may of use old stock ? that ''H'' in the part number may be the difference in the IC's used

google that part he used '' KVR1333d3n9H/49 '' notice how kingstons web site don't come up for any product page ? [discontinued and pulled ? ]

see you cant go by any of that , now maybe buy that ''H'' memory he used and try it in yours ? don't see any usa sales of it ?? amazon maybe

then from amazon Q&A

''Answer: ''

Wziadi,
Gigabyte ga-g41 combo has an Intel's chipset G41 and is not compatible with high density memory modules such as, KVR1333D3N9H/8G .
Thank you for considering using Kingston Technology as your upgrade partner.

thing is that platform [775] is phased out and near forgot about/ obsolete .. there a few sticks still available around like from gskill I linked above but just to say some sticks I use to recommend just a few months ago are now no longer available , so ??????

Yes this model of Kingston is already discontinued but I found in a store that sells this model (KVR1333D3N9H/4g) . I also believe 2x4g sticks will work instead of 1 8GB stick. I will update you about this once I get my hands on the memory. For now all I can hope is to upgrade it to 4gb. However since someone has done it with 8gb, why not try if this will also work for mine. :)

UPDATE:

I just saw my model again an it says KVR1333D3N9/4G-SP. I was comparing it with the KVR1333D3N9H/4g ( without -SP). I don't know what is the difference between the two.

in the end you just need to get a more up to today platform that 775 is just obsolete

like said here

''The Gigabyte GA-G41 Series GA-G41MT-S2 (rev. 1.3) needs a specific type of memory module to function properly. For reference, we have listed the technical specs for your GA-G41 Series GA-G41MT-S2 (rev. 1.3) to the left.''

http://www.upgradememory.com/ram/gigabyte-gag41-series-gag41mts2-rev-13/

like I said let them guarantee it will work in your board

''All memory upgrades shown here are 100% guaranteed compatible with this particular motherboard.''

Thank you for your help! I successfully upgraded to 4gb for now with Patriot (psd34g13332). https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Signature-PC3-10600-Desktop-PSD34G13332/dp/B003GSLDJ0

I will look for this model and will try if it will go to 8gb with another stick. :D

Chart for quick reference, with an explanation below it:

128MB module: total Module layout is 16Mx64
High density - each Chip is 16Mx16
Low density - each Chip is 8Mx16

256MB module: total Module layout is 32Mx64
High density - each Chip is 16Mx16
Low density - each Chip is 16Mx8

512MB module: total Module layout is 64Mx64
High density - each Chip is 32Mx16
Low density - each Chip is 32Mx8

1GB module: total Module layout is 128Mx64
High density - each Chip is 64Mx16
Low density - each Chip is 64Mx8

2GB module: total Module layout is 256Mx64
High density - each Chip is 256Mx16
Low density - each Chip is 256x8

4GB module: total Module layout is 512Mx64
High density - each Chip is 512Mx16
Low density - each Chip is 512Mx8

The High Density module only needs half as many chips per side because there are more memory slots inside those chips. If you want Low Density chips, you need twice as many, and so modules with Low Density chips cost twice as much.
