Hello!
I'm looking to build low budget gaming rig within the next 2 months before december. I live in Singapore, intending to get some parts locally and ship the rest from amazon where it is a little cheaper. This issue came about because i was using a previous Asus Laptop ROG G75VW, and bought a BenQ XL2430T Monitor (which supports up to 144hz) but my Laptop can only do a 60hz refresh rate on even games like CSGO.

Hence, i was thinking in investing in a desktop for a rig that can run some games like CS/Dota2/SC2 at 144hz for my monitor. I was looking at these parts for a computer that i intend to order;

GPU: USD250
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan), 6GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC), Only 6.8 Inches Graphics Card 06G-P4-6161-KR

CPU: USD230
Intel Core i5 6500 3.20 GHz Quad Core Skylake Desktop Processor & Cooler Master - CPU Cooler with 120mm PWM Fan Bundle

SSD: USD74
Kingston Digital 240GB SSDNow V300 SATA 3 2.5 (7mm height) Solid State Drive (SV300S37A/240G)

RAM: USD40
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s PC3-12800 CL9 1.5V UDIMM 240-Pin Memory (BLS8G3D1609DS1S00)

Am i correct to say that i am am still short of
1) Case
2) Motherboard
3) PSU
4) OS
For a functional desktop?

My concerns are:
Must my case be compatible with motherboard or graphic card or anything? How about my PSU is there any recommendations for me? (Thinking of getting a CoolerMaster case)
I think i have someone selling me a windows 10 Pro key for USD20, will probably use it.

Will my CPU and GPU bottleneck each other? Can these 2 pieces allow me to hit 144hz refresh rate on my monitor for games like CSGO and Dota2?

Thank you i'm a newbie and haven't done this before, much help is appreciated :)

Solution
Probably the PSU will come with a power cable,
Your monitor supports 'Display Port' which is better than DVI, you should get one of that instead of a DVI cable

The i5 6500 do come with a stock cooler within it's original box, the 6600k don't for example, that way you would have to buy one.

If you plan to go with the i5 6500 you must have a DDR4 RAM, the DDR3 won't work. And, two sticks from the same size/brand/clock even tho smaller are best than just a single one. Like, two 4GB RAM is better than a one 8GB RAM.

Yes, there's all there's left if you plan to have just 240GB of space in your PC

Yes, mobo size must be the same or smaller than your Case. The size are more or less measured by ATX, So if you get a FULL or MID ATX it should hold any mobo, but if you get a MINI ATX Case you'll only fit MINI-ATX mobo as well.

About PSU, you should get at least 500W for that rig. SuperNOVA G2 is an excellent option right now, if you can, go for it or even the CX500M

And the key to windows, i've never trusted those sellers online, you never know if it's really reliable. As they sell keys on the offical MS site for about $100 so anything under that is strange.

No, with those two there won't be any bottleneck. the 6500 is a great CPU and the 1060 is a great GPU they'll work perfectly together and will reach 144Hz in the games you stated probably with maxed-out settings.

In more advanced/intensive games, a 1060 may not reach 144Hz, if you want to be 100% sure that it will reach 144Hz at 1080p maxed-out always, i'd recommend a GTX 1070.

MB - Look toward the B150 or H170 chipsets with four memory slots.
MEM - DDR4-2133 @ 1.2v
SSD - Eh... you can do better. Check out the Crucial MX300 or Sandisk X400. The Samsung 850 EVO is nice, but the price has been climbing.
PSU - XFX, Seasonic or the EVGA G2 lineup. A 450w or 550w PSU will be more than enough. Light reading => www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html
CASE - On a budget I like the Deepcool lineup.

Hi mandy and sadams,
Thank you so much for the input! Okay i have done abit more research and came to these concluisions, would this work out for my final product then? (

CPU: Intel Core i6500
Motherboard: GIGABYTE H110M-DS2 DDR4 (Purchased together with CPU for about 260USD Local, Singapore)
Memory: Ballistix Sport LT 8GB Single DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) DIMM 288-Pin (43USD Amazon) I saw the 2x 8GB but i don't think i want to get 2 RAM cards yet i might upgrade in future, it is possible with the motherboard i am getting yes? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DPSQOO4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Storage: Crucial BX200 240GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive - CT240BX200SSD1 (70USD Amazon) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IAGSD5O/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan), 6GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC), Only 6.8 Inches Graphics Card (240USD Amazon) Not sure if this is the correct card that will fit? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IPVSLTC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Case: Tecware F3 http://www.tecwareph.com/f3 It's really cheap like 32USD in my local market and it looks really nice
Power Supply: Seasonic S1211 520w / Corsair CS550m / Cooler Master Elite V2 - 550W.... Will these be okay? I'll go for the cheaper option cause i don't have the quotation yet and am on a budget, these brands are more easily available in my local market. (The recommended XFX will be a problem for me as it is difficult to get in my local market, difficult to ship as well so i will be using alternatives)
Operating System: Undecided.. Windows 10 home will be good enough?

In the end, i will be using this computer to run games at 144hz so i can utilize my monitor benq xl2430T, i don't mind settling for lower graphics due to budget (1060 over 1070). Should i go ahead and purchase these parts?

Thank you all for your patience!

Yes it's possible, but it's best to buy RAMs in a pair, that way they're more likely to work in dual channel properly. It doesn't mean your future upgrade won't, but there more chances that it won't. Just make sure to get the exact same brand, model and clock speed that this one and everything may end up just fine.

Yeah, will fit, there's plenty of space in that case.

From those 3 PSUs you listed, i'd go with the Seasonic one, it's the best above all of them IMO.

Yes, W10 is a good choice right now go on with it.

Yup, go on ahead, won't be disappointed

Okay thank you so much! One last question before I buy all these lego blocks and attempt to piece them together,

I most likely just need dvi-d cable, power cables. Dont need a CPU Fan for the above yes? I've read somewhere that some CPU require their own heat sink / fans...

(Sorry a little paranoid because it's really my first time trying this out)
