Hey, I was setting up a optiplex 380 as a ftp web server with a Dual core xeon. And it works with the 2 gb sitcks I had in it and now I tryed a 4gb stick and nothing works error code 1. And bois fully updated.
What's the model # of the 4 GB stick, if a newer model (post 2010) it's more than likely made with high density memory ICs and not compatible. The mobo was designed for low density based DDR3.
Well its a ddr2 mobo and the stick is a ebay resell with no name(Which is why I think it killed the pc) And this also happened to my dell T3400. I just want to know if there is ant way of fixing it. I have tried 2 other ram sticks and the 1 gig it came with and nothing.

try resetting the CMOS then install - also would never recommend buying 2nd hand and no name sticks...if they are damaged, yes thay could screw thing up royally

Some of the prebuilt systems may not work if only one RAM slot is populated. Try putting a matching set of 2 RAM sticks into it.
Supported RAM is: Non-ECC, dual-channel, 1066MHz, DDR3 SDRAM, up to 8GB Max system memory.

This came and works with a 1gb stick and only one. I ran it with 2 sticks of 2gb and worked fine, And I buy this 4gb stick and only use it and it wont work with any ram at this point.
