Sure, but you need to be matching memory with the motherboard chipset. In this case, the i5-6500 is typically paired with the H110, B150 or H170 chipsets. Those chipsets are limited to DDR4-2133 which is where you should be looking. If you pair that CPU with a more expensive motherboard, the Z170 chipset will easily handle faster memory modules past DDR4-2133...
