I'm afraid that @Jared is right! You need to provide us with more details about your issue in order for us to be able to help you out.
I'd recommend going to Disk Management in Windows and checking how your external HDD is recognized there. Sharing some screenshots would be really helpful, too. I'd also advise you to try to access the content of your external drive from another computer (if you have access to one) and using a different USB cable or port on your system. As soon as you can access your files, make sure you back them up by copying the data elsewhere. This way you will be able to avoid any potential data loss while you are doing the troubleshooting. It would also be a good idea to run your HDD's brand-specific diagnostic tool to determine the health and SMART status of the drive.
