I have windows 8 on my Samsung notebook laptop. I live in the UK so the drive will be region 2. I wanted to buy an old movie but it's only available on region 1. My dvd player is region 2, so I was wondering if I could watch it on my laptop and if so how do I go about it. I'll buy a region free dvd player when my current one packs up, but it would be great if I could watch it on my laptop in the meantime. I don't want to do anything dodgy like hacking the laptop in case it damages it. Thanks.

I always set it from PowerDVD, but you can change it in the device manager.

You can only change it like 5 times including the initial setting(on the drive in my picture at least) so watch out not to get stuck on another region.

Unfortunately the region code is generally part of the drive(some may be region free). it can be changed a limited number of times.

A software work around may work, but they are a bit of a grey area legally.

I would see if VLC can play it since it plays just about anything.

Thanks. I'll only need to change the region code once to watch this dvd. What do I have to do to change it? I'm currently using Kodi to watch dvd's, so I may try VLC. Thanks for the tip.
