So this old rig has been chugging along happily for 5+ years now with an unlocked core. Back in the day I ran mprime for several days to test stability, it was good.
Anyway, I noticed that lately I've been running out of RAM, so I doubled it to 16 gigs. Suddenly, my system would POST 1 in 5 times. I upgraded my BIOS on Asrock 870 extreme 3, wiped the CMOS, and unlocked the core, and continued to have the same problem. So, I relocked that extra core, and everything works fine.
What happened?! Did adding ram expose some latent defect in that extra core?! If I mess around with voltages, or whatever, is there any chance I could get that core back? It doesn't matter that much, because I plan to upgrade when Zen comes out, but I'd still like to see what you guys have to say about it.
PS:
The RAM that I've upgraded to is ballistix 1600 1.5v. I've run memtest on it overnight, and it gave no errors. My old mem was g.skill (it looked fancier)
