Through the years the community has help me a lot with making choices thanks to all who have answered.I game and my computer was built in 2008.I am at the end of my upgrades. My question is their are some great deals out there for cheap.I found an HP 8200 i5 second generation intel quad core 3.1 GHZ.The newest game i play is fallout 4 which plays fine except in in town situations sometimes comes to a dead stop.Would the i5 be a good choice even though it is second generation and what about future upgrades.Thank you.

Solution
The 2nd-gen i5 is on par with 6th gen i3, which is pretty decent. Even if it's the i5-2400, it will be 100% faster than your Q6700 ->http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-2400-vs-Intel-Core2-Quad-Q6700/803vsm3748

I thought about that also, since i have a pretty nice case and pretty good video card already. But for 235.00 plus 16gigs ram and 1tb hard drive I thought it might be the easier way to go,im not the best person in the world as far as building a new computer, just was wondering if I would be dissapointed with 2nd gen i5 thanks again

What is your current CPU/GPU?

There are much, much better cards than a 750Ti available today, you'll be amazed by the resolution, settings, and frames you can play at with a nicer new card.

Also, it should be noted that a 2nd gen i5 really isn't too much cheaper off the shelves than a 6th gen i5 ; a used one is a different story and you may or may not want one. I'd just go new, specs will hold it longer and it will generate less heat / use less power for the performance it gives.

Yes i was thinking for a quick fix maybe get the i5 2nd gen for now that way I could take my time building something new for the long haul.looked at some MB today like the gigabyte GA H170 which will take an i7/i5/i3 processor wasn't sure if it was sli some say it is some say it isn't.I've always stayed with nvidia, there's so much out there I get lost with it all so any suggestions on MB and processors would be appreciated.Money wise i have no problem with spending say 900.00 max, just can't do it all at once. Thanks again
