Hello. I need a new harddrive for my budget gaming PC as I have reached capacity on my 500 GB harddrive.

I suspect if I keep the harddrive I already have now in the computer I could make due with a 1 or 2 TB additional harddrive.

A hybrid or SDD would be nice. I don't really know anything about SSD's excpect that the capacity is low and they are expensive. I don't really have any complaints with performance on my computer so I don't really see an absolute need for a SSD or Hybrid, but if it is the same price I would like to get one. I have read alot of customer reviews of Seagates hybrid drives failing within months, and other bad things about them.

This seems like a really good deal:

So I was thinking of a 3 tb HDD or 2 tb Hybrid.

Hybrids are a total pass IMO; they only make sense for budget conscious buyers hoping to use them in a laptop with 1 drive bay and only make sense as the OS drive where the most frequently used programs can possibly be put in the flash portion of the drive. You have no control over what's in the SSD portion. Their niche is that they have a higher capacity than SSDs, or used to - 2TB SSDs do exist now, with more performance than HDDs (as a single drive hosting the OS). Back when you had to choose between 120GB SSD and 1TB SSHD, there was an actual debate. For a desktop, you can easily go with a 120GB SSD and a 1TB HDD so there was never any point to the SSHD for desktops.

Note that the HGST is a refurbished drive. If you just need more space to store files - rather than programs and games - then you should be fine with a WD Red 2TB drive. Note that the WD Blue drives over 1TB are rebadged WD Green drives.

I need more space for games more than files. I don't know what a WD Red or WD blue is. So a 3TB would be good but slightly overkill IMO for what I need, but I'm willing to spend the extra 10-30 dollars.

... Should I stay away from the refurbished drive?

Your 500gb drive, is it full of files or programs?

If it is full of files then save the programs to a different drive temporarly, get a 250gb ssd for $70, clone your OS/Programs to the SSD and then wipe your 500gb drive and copy back over your files.

An SSD brings new life into old hardware, you will be amazed at how much more responsive your PC will be.

Now if that is 500gb of programs/games then you will have to reinstall windows and key programs to the SSD and then wipe the 500gb drive and reinstall the rest of the programs/games to the 500gb drive.

One sec I'll see what's on my 500. I think it is mostly programs/games and music.

But wouldn't that only leave my with 750 GB? I would probably use that up in 6 months with the amount of games I buy
