I recently built my first computer. Since I had updated a pre-built before this with a graphics card, I kept the old one to keep costs low, and now I am planning on upgrading the gpu again soon.

I have a

i5-6500
Gtx-960 ssc 2gb
8gb of HyperX Ram
Gigabyte Z170x Motherboard
500w EVGA Psu
1TB Western Digital Blue
120gb Kingston SSD (Getting 240gb one soon)
Hyper 212 Evo cpu cooler
All inside a NZXT S340 Red
with 2 nzxt fans, and 2 corsair led fans
and 2 Bitfenix Led strips

My question is, should I upgrade my cpu and get a i5-6600k and get a gtx 1060, or should i just get a gtx 1070? Also, would my psu be enough for everything with a 1070?

I only play games like CSGO, Battlefield, Doom, OverWatch, Skyrim (modded), and Fallout (modded) And don't plan on getting a 4k monitor anytime soon.

Solution
For the single best gaming upgrade go with the 1070.

The i5-6500 keeps up with the 1070 very well, and you'll be able to push games a further for the money. If you're interested I recommend taking a look at the "Ultimate Bottlenecking Guide" here on Tom's to get a sense of what Intel CPU's pair well with different graphics cards.

As said above, keep the i5-6500 and upgrade to GTX 1070. Upgrading from an i5-6500 to an i5-6600k would be terrible value.

Keep in mind, with the right BIOS installed on your motherboard, you might be able to BLCK overclock your i5-6500 CPU, if you're lucky past 4.0 Ghz ranges.

Also, is my psu enough for all this. I know everything plugged into my motherboard draws power. I have no idea what the max wattage would be for the powersupply.

I've read around here that evga psu are bad, but it seems decent enough.

An upgrade would be best if you can possibly afford it.

On a budget this is a great mid-range PSU that will handle the 1070 just fine:

Power Supply: Corsair CXM 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $49.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

If you can afford a little bit more this PSU is one of the best in its class:

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($82.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $82.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I've heard lots of stuff about the corsair cx series. I've heard the seasonic psu's are amazing though. And the S12-II is a teir 2 psu for for dollars more on amazon, I'm going to purchase that now, then as soon as I have enough money for the 1070 I'll pick that up too.

CX series is poor.

CXM however is excellent. 100% Japanese capacitors.

They are different series from each other and can't be directly compared.
