Hello.

I am asking the question "Is the Xeon E5450 the same thing as the C2Q Q9650?" because I see many listings on eBay stating this.

they are for differnt sockets one for lga 775 and one for 771 so their not interchangable

It is just about the same! Also on eBay are mod stickers that allow you to use a Socket 771 in a motherboard with the Socket 775: You just have to cut the two location tabs (carefully) off of the socket's perimeter, and insert the cpu 90 degrees rotated. I have done this in order to save money on the cpu, and probably thousands of others have too. Try to Google "Socket 771 mode sticker".

Windows recognizes my E5450 perfectly. I have overclocked it to 3.6 Ghz in a XFX 750i mb. Other people have done the same in a EVGA mb: http://www.overclock.net/t/325092/evga-750i-ftw-overclock-thread

It is now about Windows, it is more about BIOS.
