Can I use either 2.5 or 3.5 form factor hard drives, or can I only use one, and how do I know which one to use?

Solution
most cases have places for 3.5 hard drives, and 2.5 ssd's, you could put a 2.5 hard drive in the ssd area, but 3.5 are much cheaper , so just go with 3.5 regular hard drives, and if you go ssd get 2.5, cause they dont make 3.5 ssd's

Generally, a 3.5" drive is faster, and can be larger, and are usually more expensive per GB.
2.5" drives are sized to fit in laptops. But will work in a desktop if you want.

The specifications for your case will tell you how many internal drive bays it has as well as what size they are. However, even if the case specs only list a number of 3.5" drive bays, there are 3.5" to 2.5" drive bay adapters readily available on the market.
