Ok sorry the main question is can I use my old hd with Windows in my new build a while back I got a new mono a gigabyte along with new cup can reused hd and it driven go into bios just straight into Windows, can I expect that in my new build the new mobo is a gigabyte

Apparently I'm a nobody? Thanks mate.

I think you could step down to the 520W model. Although that won't give you too much room for future expansion.

Windows is weird like that. I can't guarantee that it will be able to boot without doing a fresh install, but it's worth a shot. Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 do a much better job of adapting to a hardware change than any older versions did.

It depends on a lot of things. I can't say for sure. But I think it's worth a shot. The worst thing that can happen is Windows doesn't boot, there's no chance of you losing your data unless you format the HDD.

Hah, lol. I meant not a lot will considering not everyone has the amount of free time so others do.

The length of time you have had the HDD makes no difference here. Let's say you've been trained to wire up houses to be put on a city wide power grid. If that's all you know, it doesn't matter how long you've been trained, you still won't be able to program your computer without knowing how.

Same thing here. How long Windows has ran off of the HDD makes no difference in this situation. If it's not familiar with the motherboard/CPU, it may not be able to adapt. However, it's about a 50/50 shot that it may be able to boot on the first try. If it doesn't boot after five tries, it's not going to.

I think you've misunderstood. The current installation may not boot on the new hardware (although it might), but if you run the installation media you can install a new copy of Windows that will set itself up on the new hardware. That install will not fail to boot.

I recommend backing up HDD contents before attempting such a large hardware change, just in case you have to do a fresh install (requires HDD format).

Technically speaking, there was a chance it wouldn't boot the last time you did this as well. It seems that it was able to adapt last time, so it may do it this time as well. Although there's still the chance that it might not be able to adapt.

A disk or USB stick provided by either the desktop manufacturer or the store where you bought Windows. If you don't have it, it can be created on a USB drive.

Do you have installation media? If not, do you have the activation code for your current install of Windows?
