I have a Huawei HG8245H to receive fiber optic connection and to spread wifi in other part of the house, the older ASUS DSL-N12U is connected to the HG8245H via LAN cable. Both are [strike]spreading[/strike] broadcasting the same [strike]wifi network name[/strike] SSID.

Question: should these two wireless routers have different wifi channel or is it ok for them to be in the closer channel? Currently, HG8245H is set to channel 7 while DSL-N12U is set to channel 1. Or does it not matter?

Yes you should separate the channels on the two routers and as stated above try and use the least congested channels. Its easier on the 5Ghz band than the 2.4Ghz. Try downloading inSSIDer free to scan the airways for RF.

try changing both of them to auto then run speed testes on both. Basically play around the channel's to see whats best in your area (channels 1,6 and 11) are the ones you should be testing. Hope this helps :)
